Ace-hunting: Kudos to the guys who film every tee shot

I love ace videos.

And not just the stuff coming from the Pro Tour

The ones featuring random, no-name disc golfers are just as good.

Regardless of social platform, these videos abound – they’re everywhere.

Which begs the question …

Who are all these people filming EVERY tee shot?

Seriously, more impressive than the actual hole-in-one is the months- or years-long commitment to catching it on camera. Screw disc golf: Get these guys into UFOs, Nessie, Sasquatch, etc.

DGPT: Jeremy Koling

As for myself, apart from a handful of form videos, never in my life have I had someone film me doing anything on a disc golf course, let alone something even remotely impressive. There’s a reason I stick with blogging: It’s easier to hide behind a computer screen – no real pressure.

But I know people who do this …

They’re batty.

Contrary to what you might believe, this isn’t an every-hole practice. It makes zero sense to film an off-the-tee effort on a 500-foot hole if the farthest you can pump a Star Destroyer is 375 feet. However, scaring the cage from 215 feet with a putter or mid is worth the smartphone storage.

Depending on the golfer, the desired result differs:

  • Making it as a content creator.
  • Building a booming social following.
  • Getting featured on Simon Lizotte’s YouTube channel.
  • Simply capturing an epic moment on film for future enjoyment.

Again, all I can speak to are the guys within my circle who do this – most have multiple aces to their name. One or two of them, however, are still searching for their first one-throw wonder.

It’s hope that fuels the fire.

So to the lunatics who keep my socials bursting with ace videos, thank you for the service you provide. I couldn’t do what you do. I lack the drive, patience and (obvious) mental instability.

Carry on, Spielberg.

  1. Dude I was literally just talking about this with my friends on the course. I’ve got one buddy who’s been playing 10+ years and doesn’t have one and it’s all he thinks about. It’s all he wants. I’m only a few months in but never really had the ace fever until I hit metal TWICE one round. Now I’m extremely hungry for an ace and would definitely love to get it on film. I totally get it now and in this day and age to not get something that cool on camera seems like a let down.
So I’ll be filming my buddies on every ace run now and maybe we’ll get one worth sharing.

    • But what about MENTAL pictures / videos?

(queue that scene of Jim and Pam taking mental photos during their wedding)
