DGPT: Changes to post-produced disc golf coverage in 2024

I’m all in on live disc golf.

If you’re not, this is for you.

The 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) season will do things a bit differently on the post-produced front. Unsurprisingly, similar to last year, JomezPro will remain the star of the show. This makes sense, seeing as how the DGPT purchased the company in May of 2023.

To that end, JomezPro will continue to push free, next-day coverage on its YouTube channel. This service will be offered for lead cards at all DGPT, DGPT+ and DGPT Playoff events, as well as at the 2024 DGPT Championship. You can count on the same post-produced viewing at the 2024 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships, Champions Cup and Worlds.

Not bad.

Again, for as much as it sucks, like last year, the European Open, United States Disc Golf Championship and Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship will first be released on the Disc Golf Network (DGN) for both live and post-event consumption. Click here to purchase the right DGN plan to view them. Still, assuming you can wait two weeks (ouch) after each event’s conclusion, they’ll also be available for free viewing on YouTube via JomezPro’s channel.

Here is where things (finally) get different, though …

The DGPT recognizes that there’s now more parity in professional disc golf than ever before. In years past, JomezPro has focused exclusively on feature- or lead-card coverage – and that’s it. If those filmed were playing meaningful disc golf, great. And if not, it sucked – you were stuck.

This year, however, JomezPro’s post-produced coverage will include multiple cards both up and down the leaderboard. To make this happen, the DGPT has invested heavily in JomezPro. The idea is that more staff with more equipment stationed on more holes at Pro Tour events will produce a better, more complete post-produced product – one that’s broader in scope.

Armed with additional access to all DGN cameras, inside the editing room, the JomezPro team will compile highlights and key moments from the round in question to tell the full, accurate story of what happened in a post-produced format. And as long as you wait 24 hours …

It’s free on YouTube.

Furthermore, this year, both Ace Run Productions and Gatekeeper Media will be back within the DGPT’s portfolio of media partners, but in different capacities. In 2023, each production house focused on post-produced FPO and MPO chase-card coverage. This year, however, Ace Run Productions will target content outside of competitive round play – more details to come.

In 2024, Gatekeeper Media will keep at chase-card MPO coverage, but won’t travel to every event in an effort to cut production costs. Instead, for all DGPT events and select PDGA Pro Majors, they’ll use the DGN’s camera footage to piece together content. Following suit, Gatekeeper’s videos will be free, but won’t be released until a week after each event.

Not a fan.

But wait …

What about GK Pro Disc Golf?

Expect more “Tour Series Skins” battles on YouTube at select DGPT events.

That’s never a bad thing.

Bummed about the DGN’s change in subscription plans?

Here’s what I’d do:

  • Subscribe to JomezPro on YouTube.
  • Bookmark the link to their production schedule.
  • Avoid social media “spoilers” like the plague on the weekends.

But again …

It’s all free.

Beggars can’t be choosers.
