Disc golf: What does ‘BIN’ mean when buying discs online?

Buying discs.

It’s half the fun of disc golf.

There are a number of ways to feed your addiction:

There’s another one that’s WAY less common, but great for finding hidden gems

Facebook.

And I’m not talking about Facebook Marketplace, like you might think – Facebook Groups are where you need to be. For those looking to buy, sell or trade for ultra-specific types of discs, rest assured, there’s a Group for you. Filter by Tour Series, affordability, manufacturer, collector appeal, etc. Heck, there’s even an entire Group dedicated to nothing but Sexton Firebirds.

Everything.

Within most of these Groups, posts are made that feature a disc for sale. In the comments section below, the auction action takes place. Naturally, to the highest bidder goes the disc. In the original post, however, you’ll frequently see the “BIN” acronym with a dollar amount.

BIN stands for “buy it now.”

So while those interested can place bids in the comments, anybody can BIN the disc at any time. Assuming nobody’s already done so, simply comment “BIN” and the disc is instantly yours. By so doing, you agree to pay the BIN amount for the disc the poster made clear from the start.

* Note: There’s not always a BIN rate for a disc, so if you don’t see one, don’t be surprised.

The more you take part in these Groups, the more you’ll get a feel for how the process works. Generally speaking, however, THIS is when you’ll want to drop a “BIN” in the comments:

  • The BIN rate is insanely low, as the poster doesn’t know the disc’s value.
  • The auction is heated, and you’re not interested in the minutiae of it all.
  • You arrive late to the auction and want immediate dibs on the disc.
  • Bids are quickly nearing the set BIN rate, so you might as well.

The seller gets what they want; you get what you want.

Happy pappy.

There are a few other acronyms you’ll want to know about in these Groups, too …

  • FR: “First run”
  • ISO: “In search of”
  • FTO: “For trade only”
  • PPFF: “PayPal Friends and Family”
  • RRNTS: “Reserve the right not to sell”

I’m an all-things-Innova kind of disc golfer. And for as much as I prefer Twitter (X) over all other social media platforms, this page made not deactivating my Facebook account worth it.

Discs-wise, whatever makes you weak in the knees can be found on Facebook.

And you can buy it, too.

BIN.

Have anything to add? Take to Twitter to let us know – we’ll actually (for real) get back to you.
