Not everybody is big on Foundation Disc Golf …
Screw ‘em: Color me a fan.
As far as disc golf content on YouTube is concerned, the retailer’s viddies are hard to beat. Yes, I get that Simon Lizotte can do no wrong, but without fail, these guys are uploading multiple fun, light-hearted disc golf videos each week. And that’s in addition to a bunch of podcasts, too.
Count me in.
One of my all-time favorite YouTube segments of theirs is the “Bogey Bros Battle.” If you’ve never seen an installment of the series, Hunter Thomas and Trevor Staub travel around the United States doing doubles battles with fans of the Foundation Disc Golf channel.
Red Beard films them, edits them and posts them.
Voilà.
They win. They lose. And sometimes, they get curb-stomped by a pair of 15-year-old prodigies NOT named “Gannon Buhr.” Incredibly, this was the first-ever “Bogey Bros Battle.”
It’s a bloodbath: Viewer discretion is advised.
But how exactly does the dynamic duo find (and choose) double teams to go up against?
Recently, I learned the pair was in Springville, Utah for a battle at Jolley’s Ranch. Roughly a nine iron from my home, I couldn’t help but wonder why I wasn’t given an opportunity to embarrass myself in front of a massive, online audience – I suck at putting, too.
Have YOU asked yourself a similar question?
Good news: Thanks to a few Twitter DMs with Mr. Staub, I now know the nuts-and-bolts of the selection process, as well as what viewers can do to increase their chances of being chosen …
Have at it:
- Step No. 1 – Follow Foundation Disc Golf on Instagram.
- Step No. 2 – Pay attention to any Instagram Stories from the account.
- Step No. 3 – When prompted, send over your application via an Instagram DM.
* Note #1: Depending on the scope of the trip, you might be asked to fill out a Google Form.
But again, any half-brained idiot can do the above …
It’s standing out that matters.
Here’s what #BlondDudeBlows is looking for:
- You need an “electric” (his adjective, not mine) team name.
- You should have a strong knowledge of the local disc golf scene.
- You need team chemistry: Bonus points for long-time buddies and siblings.
- You can’t be a beginner-level disc golfer, but you needn’t be Paul McBeth, either.
* Note #2: A pair of 920-rated golfers with complementary skill sets should do just fine.
Unfortunately, planned this past winter, a recent two-week tour of the West Coast satisfied 100% of the remaining “Bogey Bros Battles” for 2023. As to where the Bogey Bros are headed next, things are still up in the air. According to Trevor, however, he’s got his eye on Florida …
Cliff Stephens is calling.
So, what are you waiting for?
Now’s the time to dial in those 15-footers.
You could be next.
