Disc golf news: Nate Sexton extends his captain’s contract with Innova through 2025

If ever there was a man deserving of loyalty from a disc golf manufacturer that’s not known for it, it’d be Nate Sexton. The man is everything right about professional disc golf, incarnate:

  • Sexton is a family man.
  • Sexton is extremely loyal to his sponsors.
  • Sexton is what you want others to see in disc golf.

Good news: Innova feels the same way.

On Jan. 3, Sexton announced via Instagram that he’d be Innova’s captain through 2025:

This is somewhat surprising in that it comes on the heels of a mass exodus from Innova that’s caused many to question the manufacturer’s strategy moving forward with its team. Led by the likes of Ricky Wysocki, Andrew Marwede, Mason Ford, Kona Panis and Valerie Mandujano, Innova’s messaging is crystal clear: stay if you want, but the door’s open, if you so please.

Furthermore, adding to the oddity of it all, Sexton didn’t actually tour full full-time in 2021. In fact, he played in only 13 events. The lack of tournament time didn’t hurt him. At the World Championships, he finished in third. And at USDGC in Rock Hill, he took fifth place.

DGPT: Nate Sexton

Given he has a daughter, a wife wrapping up residency and plans to move back to Oregon from Washington, Sexton likely won’t tour full-time again. He does plan to play more in 2022, though.

And here’s the real kicker …

Nate might not play as much as he used to, but the Sexton Firebird’s success has meant he hasn’t had to. Details aren’t public, but every Innova contract extension has included an increase in royalties. And yes, you guessed it – this most recent one was no different.

Work less. Make more.

Good things happen to good dudes. Sexton’s living proof of it.
