What’s ‘C1X’ mean in disc golf?

Putting is the most important part of a disc golfer’s game.

As such, it stands to reason the skill set would occupy much of a player’s time and energy. Brands know this, so they pump out new putter molds every other week, it seems. Practice baskets are helpful, too. Heck, even ultra-niche companies like DiscDot are in on the action.

Back in 2019, UDisc Live got involved, as well …

But not many people noticed.

No, they didn’t launch a line of putters, manufacture smaller baskets or create some unnecessary, gimmicky putting aid. Instead, they pulled a page straight from Noah Webster’s playbook and created an entirely new term to help fans and players better interpret putting data

“C1X”

In disc golf, C1X is a term used to describe all circle-one putts, excluding tap-ins. UDisc defines a “tap-in” as anything within 3.3 meters of the pin. Professional disc golfers rarely miss tap-ins.

To get a better idea of how a player’s really performing on the putting green, the C1X putting percentage focuses on converted putts between 3.3 meters and 10 meters from the basket

You know, the REST of circle one.

While converted putts within 3.3 meters of the basket offer little value to viewers, UDisc’s “parked” percentage does. During an Elite or Silver Series event, the statistic documents the frequency with which a player lands a shot within 3.3 meters of the hole for a look at birdie.

* Note: In 2019, UDisc Live retroactively applied C1X putting data to all tracked events.

As disc golf’s growth has skyrocketed in recent years, the need for fans and media members to connect on a more detailed level with Pro Tour performance has increased, as well. Disc golf’s not the Saturday-morning “walkabout” it used to be – like other pro sports, it’s serious business.

C1X helps with that.

Also, though your putting game (as well as mine) might be a far cry from Simon Lizotte’s, the creation of the C1X statistic helps amateurs focus their putting on what actually moves the needle come tournament time. Consistently making 22-footers crowns champions …

Distance isn’t everything.
