The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) and PDGA has released its 2023 schedule.
Here’s a nuts-and-bolts breakdown of what it’ll look like:
- DGPT – There will be 13 Elite Series events.
- DGPT – There will be 11 Silver Series events.
- DGPT – There will be three Playoff events.
- PDGA – There will be five Pro Major events.
* Note #1: The Silver Series will include two 2022-2023 “wrap-around” events.
* Note #2: Wrap-around events are held in 2022, but will award points for the 2023 season.
* Note #3: The Playoffs will include the DGPT Championship — no points will be awarded.
Eleven of the 13 Elite Series events in 2023 will be the same as they were in 2022. The other two top-notch tournaments will be The Open at Austin and the Music City Open. The Open at Austin was formerly a Silver Series event — The Open at Belton. This season, the Music City Open served as a Silver Series tourney. Given the success of the event, it’s been given the bump.
One more NEW tidbit, as well …
The “Elite+” designation now exists.
Via an official DGPT announcement:
“While not a new PDGA-sanctioning tier, Elite+ events will feature bigger purses, additional media focus and elevated spectator experiences. Similar to the Playoffs, Elite+ events will be four-round tournaments, with a cut after round three, and will deliver more DGPT points.”
Two of the 13 Elite Series events in 2023 will be granted Elite+ status:
- Elite+ No. 1 – The Portland Open
- Elite+ No. 2 – The Ledgestone Open
After its inaugural year, the DGPT Playoffs will return — more of the same, but with Discraft’s Great Lakes Open and the MVP Open at Maple Hill serving as Playoff-designated events. The DGPT Championship will technically be part of the Playoffs, but will not award any points.
Silver Series events will be back, too. And with more points on the table than in previous years. Including a pair of 2022-2023 wrap-around events, eleven tournaments will round out the Silver Series calendar — many of which will make their much-anticipated Pro Tour debuts.
