Disc golf news: Check out the 2022 DGPT live media plan (USDGC + European Open)

Yeah, I’ll admit it …

I’m one of those millennials who thinks having to pay for entertainment is ludicrous. Paywalled articles drive me up a wall. Television commercials are the devil’s delight. And I’m 31 years old, yet continue to use my mother’s Netflix account – I’ll take those logins with me to the grave.

And still, as painfully tight-fisted as I am, last week, a day before the start of the 2022 DGPT All-Star Weekend, I ponied up for an annual subscription to the Disc Golf Network (DGN).

In the moment, it felt like I’d received a swift kick to the groin …

After a weekend of watching, I would’ve paid double.

In light of the DGPT’s announcement of the DGN’s live media plan, you would’ve, too. Here are the need-to-know details – DGN subscribers will enjoy live, high-quality coverage of:

  • All Elite Series events.
  • All PDGA Professional Majors.

And yes, unlike in years past, that will include all rounds of USDGC and the European Open. In fact, a DGN subscription will consist of a minimum of 30 live, professional disc golf events.

Prices have gone up from 2021, but not by too much.

This season, a monthly DGN subscription will set you back $11.99 per month. Going the annual route will cost $99.99 – just over $8.30 per month. Also, if you’re a PDGA member, you’ll have access to a discount code that will give you 50% off a monthly subscription.

Hands down, the biggest change in 2022, however, is the number of viewing options available.

For starters, for the first time ever, fans with no DGN subscription can purchase round- and tournament-specific coverage. Individual rounds and tournaments will start at $4.99 and $9.99, respectively. Prices will fluctuate, depending on both the event and event length.

Money’s tight – I’m with you on that.

The greater disc golf community is with you, too.

JomezPro, Gatekeeper Media, Central Coast Disc Golf and a host of other disc golf production companies will continue to offer free, next-day tournament coverage on YouTube. All year, the final round of every Elite Series event will be available on the DGPT’s YouTube channel, too.

Also, more good news for the cash-strapped: if you’re a member of the PDGA, without any kind of DGN subscription, you’ll have complimentary viewing access to the following tournaments:

  • The Las Vegas Challenge
  • The PDGA Champions Cup
  • The U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championship
  • The final two rounds of the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships
  • The MVP Open at Maple Hill

Clearly, in more ways than one, it pays to be a member of the PDGA.

The above is a massive step in the right direction for the future of our sport …

Some will complain about the subscription fees. Those same people likely spend over $100 a year on Tour Series discs, many of which 1) they don’t need, and 2) they’ll never throw. I tease, but they do it from a good place – they want to support their favorite touring disc golfers.

They’re not the only ones that need support, though …

If you can, give the DGN a shot – like me, you’ll instantly be glad you did.
