Paige Pierce isn’t having a bad season …
But for the winningest FPO disc golfer of all time, it’s hardly been a fairytale.
At 30 years of age, Kristin Tattar has surged into the limelight, wasting little time in supplanting Pierce as the world’s top female disc golfer. And while Paige is still one of the best golfers on the female circuit, her rapid decline in dominance can be attributed to a number of obvious factors:
- Factor No. 1 – Pierce’s putt isn’t as automatic as it once was.
- Factor No. 2 – Pierce’s inability to throw a forehand is painful.
- Factor No. 3 – Pierce’s power-over-finesse approach isn’t working.
And while each of the above is certainly fixable for an athlete as gifted as Paige, it’s a recent comment that leaves fans and competitors wondering if the problem doesn’t run deeper …
“I’m lacking the killer instinct right now, and I don’t care to get it back for some reason. I just want to throw good shots. And when I don’t, I’m upset, but there’s no – there’s no more of me punching my hand. And it feels good – it feels d*mn good. There’s no stress in my life.”
Remember …
This is a comment that comes straight on the heels of Pierce finishing tied for fifth at Worlds and tied for 18th at the Green Mountain Championship. Tattar took down both of those titles. Combined, she finished an astounding 47 STROKES ahead of Pierce at both tournaments.
Don’t think Discraft hasn’t noticed.
Though the details aren’t entirely known, at a minimum, Paige Pierce is a Discraft-sponsored athlete wading deep into six-figure waters with her income. Brand-specific apparel, Tour Series discs, Signature Series discs and even a documentary: Discraft has facilitated a good bit of it.
Understandably, this isn’t EXACTLY what Mr. Jim Kenner wants to hear from his star …
As you’ll recall, though, this isn’t the first time Pierce has gone this route with her words. Thanks to an epic choke job on Tattar’s part, Paige claimed the 2022 PDGA Champions Cup as her own on the final hole. Speaking with Terry Miller, she had this to say after her victory:
“My dad and I got into an argument recently that winning is everything and success is winning. And you know, I’m walking up the last few holes and thinking, ‘If I lose, I’m still out here doing what I love.’ Like Alyssa tells me every day, we’re on a magical rock floating through space.”
Please don’t misunderstand: Doing what you love is great …
But Discraft doesn’t hand out cash like Halloween candy – they do it for a return on investment. Get fancy with semantics all you like, but Team Discraft is composed of employees. They’re to move plastic – winning does that. I’m no economist, but the innate value of tossing toys …
Do you know what it is?
$0.00
But for Paige, it’s a job – performance matters.

04/2023 It seems this article was a prediction of things to come. Just watched the event in Appling Ga. and PP was out of 1st by 29 strokes. It was hard to watch such a Great Player struggling. Over the past 3 years FPO has changed especially in putting. Such improvement in the FPO is a wonder to watch. PDGA CC was won by a -9 in 2022. This year a -27. There were 5 players above -9 this year. In a nutshell, there are better players in the FPO than there used to be and it is only going to get better. PP dominated in the 2010 decade, but that is all over and it will be a struggle for her even playing her best game to keep up with the competition. Love PP and hope the best for her. Peace!!
Thanks, Joe!
All great points 🙂
The layout had been tweaked slightly, so that’s something to keep in mind …
Also, Paige has admitted she’s battling injury, so there’s that, too.
But let’s be real …
-27 is a MASSIVE leap …
What you say is right.
