How to watch live disc golf in 2023

Live disc golf is awesome.

I don’t care if you pray to Jonathan Gomez before bed each night, live disc golf is better. And if you don’t think it is, buy a Disc Golf Network (DGN) subscription and spend one weekend with it. I’m confident you’ll change your tune. I used to be like you; I’ve since changed my ways.

This season, live disc golf will be a bit different, though …

If you’d like to read the “corporate speak” version of things, click here – it’s mainly fluff.

In layman’s terms, here’s what you need to know …

DGPT: Gannon Buhr

First, the DGN is where you go to get live disc golf – same old, same old. The good news, however, is that – throughout the 2023 season – the DGN will feature WAY more live coverage.

That’s (at least) thirty-five live tournaments, to be more specific. Expanded coverage of Silver Events and nine stops in Europe have made this possible – more gigs are likely to be added.

That’s the biggie.

The following are five more need-to-know 2023 DGN items …

Some are good; some are not-so-good.

Have at ‘em:

  • Item No. 1Silver Events will get full coverage. Last season, Silver Events were known as “Silver Series” events. And though they played an important role in earning Pro Tour points, a notch below Elite Series events, they weren’t given the same level of coverage. In 2023, subscribers can watch each round of action – not just the final round.
DGPT: The 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship
  • Item No. 2USDGC and the European Open are back for subscribers. In the past, tournaments like USDGC required an additional cost to watch – even if you were already a DGN subscriber. In 2022, that was kicked to the curb. As long as you were a subscriber, you could access USDGC and European Open footage – that’s back for 2023, as well.
  • Item No. 3The DGN is launching a new pre- and post-round show. It’s called “Tournament Central.” The show will include highlights, player interviews and analysis of Elite, Elite+ and Playoff events, not to mention all PDGA Pro Majors. In total, viewers will have access to an additional hour and 45 minutes of professional-level entertainment.
  • Item No. 4No more final-round viewing on YouTube. Last season, without giving a single cent to the DGN, fans could take to YouTube to watch the final rounds of all DGN broadcasts – and live. This year, however, Elite, Elite+, Playoff events and select Majors will be available for live viewing on YouTube, but only the first round – nothing more.
DGPT: The 2022 PDGA Champions Cup
  • Item No. 5Your DGN subscription now costs $12.99 per month. That’s a $1 upsurge from 2022, if you’re keeping score at home. And if you’d rather pay annually, a one-time payment will set you back $129.99 – up 30% from last season’s price. Increased coverage requires an increase in personnel and equipment, hence the uptick in subscriber costs.

* Note: All PDGA members enjoy a 50% discount on month-to-month viewing – click here.

Take note …

The way of the future is live disc golf – get onboard with it, grandpa. Otherwise, make yourself comfortable with post-produced coverage and avoiding social-media spoilers like the plague.
