Innova’s stock DX Aviar gets a makeover (and it’s better)

Something’s in the water in Rancho Cucamonga.

In January of this year, Innova made some aesthetic changes …

And to big-time, long-standing stamps:

The latest creative shake-up?

The DX Aviar Putt & Approach.

It’s a classic.

It’s never been a head-turning disc or anything, but its image is time-tested – a staple of the Innova lineup, undoubtedly. Oddly enough, I remember the first time I took my dad disc golfing with me. I hooked him up with a bunch of flippy, beginner-friendly discs. The putter I packed away for him was none other than the DX Aviar – it’s hard to go wrong with one, really.

THIS is what he had to say about it …

“Why is there a jockstrap on this one?”

And now I can’t unsee it.

Ready for your plastic-obsessed world to get rocked?

Here’s the new Aviar P&A stamp the design dorks at Innova came up with:

Disc Golf United: The (New) DX Aviar Putt & Approach

I’m fluent in snark, but this is an upgrade. I’m not sure what “Aviar” means, but it’s formed from avis – the Latin word for bird. You have to think it has something to do with flight. Because of that supposed meaning, it’s high time the DX disc’s design featured something relevant …

Like a chicken wing.

It’s a hybrid of the Team Innova and Innova Air Force stamps – it looks great.

I have no idea when the first P&A stamp cited in this post went into circulation, but I bought one back in 2005 from my local Wal-Mart, and it looked just like it, so it’s been around awhile.

Here’s to hoping the new (and improved) P&A design doesn’t go anywhere anytime soon …

DX starter sets will sell better because of it.

  1. I didn’t even find out about it. That is pretty cool!!! FWIW, I always thought that the Aviar is one of the more over rated discs with an underwhelming stamp, but this will put them about even finally.
