Disc golf news: Joel Freeman added to his sponsorship portfolio (and nobody noticed)

Joel Freeman is one of the “good guys” of disc golf. If you’re unfamiliar with his on-course work, just look for the dude rocking ridiculous, bright-colored clothing and a mile-wide smile.

But that’s not all Freeman’s known for – since turning pro in 2014, his play has had zero issue catching the attention of potential sponsors. To date, he’s sponsored by Innova Champion Discs.

Not only Innova, though …

Near the end of December 2021, Joel took to YouTube to announce his 2022 partnerships with Fisher Disc Golf, a disc golf retailer out of northern Michigan, as well as Ridge Roller Customs.

This might seem like “chopped liver” when compared with the off-season work Discraft and Dynamic Discs are putting together, but Freeman’s a way bigger deal on tour than you think.

For starters, Freeman’s the PDGA’s 2021 End-of-Year Points Winner. This was a title he won, thanks to Philip Bartholomew’s beating of Nathan Queen at The Open at Peachtree Hills in Spring Hope, North Carolina by one stroke – the final tournament of the 2021 season.

Bartholomew has also joined Freeman on Team Fisher Disc Golf, oddly enough.

Simply put, Freeman plays in a lot of tournaments. And he does really well in most of ‘em.

And though the 2017 Colorado State Champion, as well as the 2018 Utah State Champion, Freeman’s not the kind of golfer to rest on his laurels. A 1031-rated player, Joel finished with eight top-15 finishes at National Tour events in 2021, featuring heavily on lead and chase cards.

DGPT: Joel Freeman

Freeman is a power-forehand and -backhand player who – not unlike what you see from Nikko Locastro – prefers creative flex lines to their point-and-shoot counterparts. It’s this unique style of play that has him ever so close to nabbing his first Major or National Tour victory.

And when (not if) he does, it’ll be all the better for Fisher Disc Golf and Ridge Roller Customs.

They made a move in Freeman bigger, more established brands will soon regret passing up.
