Off-season disc golf: What to expect from the DGN, JomezPro

In past years, off-season disc golf content hasn’t been great. From October of 2023 to January of 2024, though, the Disc Golf Network (DGN) and JomezPro plan to change that. The acquisition of JomezPro by the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) in May of this year all but guarantees it.

Says Zac Kuykendall, DGPT marketing director:

“The early-season acquisition of JomezPro by the DGPT created a unique synergy of creative vision and operational resources that has resulted in new and exciting offerings for fans of the sport. This collaboration strengthens JomezPro's capacity, enabling them to produce more of the engaging content that the disc golf community has grown to love.”

Jonathan Gomez, president of JomezPro, chimes in on the matter, as well:

“By combining resources, we’ve been able to continue investing our time and expertise in developing new content outside of tournament coverage. Our deepened partnership with the DGPT has been a big part of actualizing multiple ideas for new shows and one-off events that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. We can’t wait to share these exciting new pieces with fans of the sport.”

Now that’s all fine and dandy …

But what can disc golf fans actually expect this off-season?

DGPT: The 2023 Des Moines Challenge

For starters, two new, multi-episode shows:

  • Show #1 – First up is “Catch With Brian Earhart.” This series follows in the footsteps of popular shows like “Hot Ones” and “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.” Earhart chats with players like Gannon Buhr, James Conrad and Juliana Korver, while tossing a disc back and forth. The result? Some brutally candid conversations – caught on camera.
  • Show #2 – Next on the docket is “Paul McBeth’s European Tour.” Remember when McBeth bailed on the Pro Tour for two months to conquer Europe? Well, there might’ve been a reason for it: The filming of this behind-the-scenes documentary. Tune in to gain an insider’s perspective on what makes McBeast great, as well as European disc golf.

Further noteworthy programming includes:

  • The first-ever, pickleball-disc golf doubles event.
  • Three Pro Tour-level distance competitions from the 2023 season.
  • Ben Askren, Bert Kreischer and other celebrities playing doubles with pros.
  • Paul McBeth and Dylan Cease working to design a new course in Tuscaloosa.
  • An episode of “DGPT On Tour” in which James Proctor reviews his 2023 season.
  • Coverage of the Euro-Tour Championship and National Amateur Disc Golf Tour Finale.

* Note #1: Dates aren’t known, but most content will be live in November and December.

* Note #2: To see the entirety of the DGN’s off-season content calendar, click here.

Some of the aforementioned will go straight to YouTube. The majority of it, however, will be exclusive to DGN subscribers, as well as JomezPro Patreon members. More specifically, they’ll have two weeks of early-bird access before a more broad release is made available to the masses.

* Note #3: JomezPro Patreon members will have access to most of the above, but not all of it.

If you’re considering subscribing to the Disc Golf Network, the month-to-month plan will set you back a mere $12.99. Furthermore, the DGN is currently running a 30% discount on yearly subscriptions. And don’t forget: PDGA members get 50% off the monthly plan, as well.

Disc golf is a great, year-round sport.

Fortunately, the content game appears to (finally) be following suit.

Enjoy.

    • Oh, that’s a good question …

No idea, but I certainly hope so!

It wasn’t ever anything earth-shattering, but it certainly made for some quality, light-hearted viewing.

My guess is that it makes the off-season cut, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
