Disc golf news: How to watch the 2022 Las Vegas Challenge without a DGN subscription

As a disc golf fan, are you too cheap to buy a Disc Golf Network (DGN) subscription?

If so, you’ll suffer mightily for it during the season. By and large, you and live disc golf will go your separate ways. Tragically, round-by-round tournament spoilers will become a weekly part of your social media experience. Expect bed-wetting, weight gain and hair loss – the works.

Life still might be worth living, though …

Thank your lucky stars the DGPT became the official Pro Tour of the PDGA in 2022. Because of it, without a DGN subscription, active members of the PDGA can watch all rounds of the 2022 Las Vegas Challenge live – here’s exactly what you need to take advantage of this freebie:

  • Step No. 1 – Log into the email you used to sign up for your PDGA membership.
  • Step No. 2 – Locate the email the PDGA sent you about watching disc golf.
  • Step No. 3 – Click on the link in the email – it’ll take you to an article.
  • Step No. 4 – Read the instructions. Follow said instructions.
  • Step No. 5 – Watch the 2022 Las Vegas Challenge live.

Essentially, you’ll be creating a DGN account. The difference between yours and that of a paying customer is that yours will have severely limited access. Here’s a little secret, though – even with the “freemium” plan, throughout the year, you’ll score live coverage of the following events:

  • The Champions Cup
  • The U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championships
  • The final two rounds of the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships
  • The MVP Open at Maple Hill

That’s a lot for a little – zero dollars and zero cents, in fact.

But what if you’re not a PDGA member?

Going the post-production route is another great option. And given the partnerships the DGPT has with four different production companies, you’ll have plenty of cards to choose from.

For today’s opening rounds, on the MPO side:

And on the FPO side:

For rounds two, three and four, here’s what to expect from each post-production provider:

  • GK Pro will cover the FPO’s lead card every round.
  • JomezPro will cover the MPO’s lead card every round, as well.
  • Gatekeeper Media will provide chase-card coverage for the MPO field.

Listen, I’ve preached the value of a DGN subscription from day one …

The reality of the situation, though?

There are only so many hours in a day. Unless you’re sitting atop a trust fund, you probably have to work at least eight ‘em. And when you get home from work, family, friends and life in and of itself are going to chew up most of the remaining time you have for watching disc golf.

If you’re lucky, you’ll follow one card for one round – and by that point, it’s hardly live.

If it weren’t for the European Open and USDGC being included in the DGN subscription, I’d say you and your frugality might’ve pulled one over on me. For now, I’m still claiming victory.

Enjoy the disc golf season, amigos. It’s been a long time coming.
